Detailed Itinerary of the 12 Days Rwanda Uganda Gorillas & Ssese Islands Tour
Day 1: Arrival to Hotel
Airport pickup and transfer to a comfortable accommodation in Kigali. For relaxation, Dinner and Overnight. At dinner, you are welcomed and briefed about the whole safari in Rwanda and Uganda by our driver guide. Hotel Mille Collines.
Day 2: Kigali City Tour & Relaxation
On the 2nd Day of the 12 Days Rwanda Uganda Gorilla Trekking & Ssese Islands Tour, you shall have morning breakfast then embark on transfer to enjoy a City Tour around Kigali as you go visiting the many Genocide Memorials, National Museums as well as the National Market. You shall visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, Nyamata Genocide Memorial where you learn about the tragic Genocide in which many lost their dear lives and families. Lunch is en-route and in the evening, proceed back to your hotel for Dinner and Overnight. Hotel Mille Collines.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Today, enjoy early morning breakfast then embark on a transfer to Volcanoes National Park in Ruhengeri District.
The journey follows the misty hills with fog, rolling hills and deviating canopies for a period of 2 to 3 hours.
On reaching Musanze, proceed to visit the Ellen De Generes Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund Institute to learn about Dian Fossey and her sacrifice to save the lives of the Gorillas that were usually killed at the time.
Take many photos to keep with you and learn about the various conservation approaches they have come up with to save the Gorillas for falling into extinction.
After here, proceed to check-in lodge for Dinner and Overnight. Five Volcanoes Lodge.
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking at Volcanoes National Park
Breakfast early morning on the 4th Day of the 12 Days Rwanda Uganda Gorilla Trekking & Ssese Islands Tour, then embark for comprehensive briefing before the Gorilla Trekking adventure. You are driven to the park headquarters in Kinigi and when you get here, proceed to grab a cup of hot tea, cappuccino, milk etc then get to be briefed on conduct around the Gorillas. You are informed on the various Gorilla Trekking Families in the park, individuals as well as their way of life and the precautions you have to follow to enjoy the best adventures while in their presence.
After briefing, you are distributed into groups of 8 with a park ranger guide per group then later you are driver to the starting point to enter the thick bamboo green forest of Volcanoes National Park. You shall enter the forest and trek the Gorillas following differing trails for 3 to 5 hours and after a while, you shall meet the Gorillas and stay in their presence taking numerous photos to keep.
After trekking and watching the Gorillas, return to lodge for Dinner and Overnight. Five Volcanoes Lodge.
Day 5: Golden Monkey Tracking at Volcanoes National Park
Early in the morning after breakfast, get to the park headquarters for short briefing on conduct around the Golden Monkeys then after you are allocated into groups of 8 to go tracking the Golden Monkeys.
Groups of hikers depart led by knowledgeable trackers and guides for the walk. The foreboding mood created by the untamed terrain and mist-covered woodlands heightens the sensation of anticipation.
Trekkers experience a range of environments before arriving at altitudes, where the Golden Monkeys are frequently observed. These environments include wide meadows and dense bamboo woods. This will take a period of 2 to 4 hours then when you meet them, they shall communicate and be playful as they jump from one tree branch to another a very ideal time to take stunning photos.
After tracking the Golden Monkeys, return to your lodge for Dinner and Overnight. Five Volcanoes Lodge.
Day 6: Transfer to Bwindi Forest National Park (Ruhaga Sector )
Delicious early morning breakfast at the lodge then with all luggage, embark on transfer top traverse the Rwanda, Uganda border to Bwindi Forest National Park’s Rushaga Sector. The Rushaga Sector comprises of 5 Gorilla families and is very ideal for Gorilla habituation experience where you get to spend quality times of 4 hours in the presence of the Mountain Gorillas in their natural forest vegetation habitat. After a 4 Hours’ Drive to the park, check-in lodge for relaxation, Dinner and Overnight. Rushaga Gorilla Camp.
Day 7: Gorilla Trekking at Bwindi Forest National Park (Rushaga Sector)
Gorilla trekking requires an early start at around 6:30 AM when you take breakfast then after head to the Rushaga Sector headquarters for a briefing by the park rangers.
The park ranger guides provide you with essential information about gorilla behavior, trekking guidelines, and safety precautions about trekking these amazing primates in their natural vegetation habitat.
After briefing, you will be assigned to a specific gorilla family group in small groups of 8 with a lead park ranger guide.
Start the trek with experienced guides and trackers following through the lush impenetrable Bwindi forest vegetation habitat with diverse flora and fauna. You transfer along these trails for 3 to 5 hours till you meet the Gorilla Trekking Family allocated to you.
Once the gorilla family is located, you will spend a magical hour observing and photographing them. After trekking the Gorillas, return to lodge for Dinner and Overnight. Rushaga Gorilla Camp.
Day 8: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park (Boat Cruise)
Early morning breakfast then with your stuff, embark on journey to Lake Mburo National Park a journey that takes you a period of 5 to 6 hours.
Lunch is en-route then after proceed on a Boat Cruise at Lake Mburo where you watch many wildlife animals along the shores breaking their thirst and hippos, crocodiles beneath the waters. After the Cruise, check-in lodge for Dinner and Overnight. Mihingo Lodge.
Day 9: Transfer to Kampala
Morning breakfast then with your luggage embark on transfer to Kampala. Lunch is en-route and when you reach Kampala, check-in lodge for Relaxation, Dinner and Overnight. Cassia Lodge Buziga.
Day 10: Transfer to Ssese Islands
Delicious morning breakfast at the lodge then embark on transfer to Ssese Islands Kalangala. Travel to Entebbe at Nakiwogo for a period of 1 to 2 hours and when you reach the shores at Nakiwogo Landing site, board an MV Kalangala Ship to cruise you to the unique stunning Ssese Islands in Kalangala.
The Ship cruises for 3 to 4 hours with n-route views of the green terrain, birds, Islands at a distance then after, you shall reach the shores where you leave from to the Ssese Islands. On reaching here, check-in lodge for Dinner and Overnight. Brovad Sands Lodge.
Day 11: Boat Cruise and Relaxation at Ssese Islands
Begin your day with a filling breakfast at your lodge then make plans to take a boat tour of the islands. Savour the breathtaking scenery of Africa’s largest lake, Lake Victoria. After the Boat Cruise, enjoy picnic lunch then later proceed to explore Kalangala Town, cultural attractions, stores and local markets. In the evening, return to your lodge then relax at peaceful area of the beach.
You can as well as Read a book, go for a leisurely walk or just take in the peace and quiet as you watch the beautiful sunset. In the night, gaze at the beautiful stars while the sky is clear. After, proceed to have Dinner and Overnight. Brovad Sands Lodge.
Day 12: Depart to Entebbe Airport
Morning breakfast then embark on departure to Entebbe International Airport to board flight back home.
